Carpet Overlock King has been operating on the Sunshine Coast for the past 10+ years. As of May 2025, Rick and Hayley are incredibly proud to continue the legacy of Carpet Overlock King, a business founded by Glenn Whitmarsh. For 40+ years, Glenn has been involved in the carpet industry and for the past 10+ years perfected the art of carpet overlocking, transforming leftover carpet into custom mats for homes, cars, boats, and even aircraft. We thank Glenn for his dedication to this unique craft, and we're committed to upholding the high standards of quality set by Glenn.
What is carpet overlocking?
Carpet overlocking, also called carpet edging, is the specialised process of giving custom-cut carpet a clean, durable, and professional finish. Essentially, it's a strong, continuous stitch that wraps neatly around the raw edges of your carpet.
This technique creates a tidy border, transforming your carpet into a high-quality rug or mat. The main advantage? It prevents fraying and unravelling, increasing your carpet's lifespan and improving its appearance with a polished, appealing look.

Our process
1. Cut the carpet to size
We'll cut your carpet to your specifications, ensuring you get a perfectly sized mat, rug or runner. Overlocking only finishes the edge and won't alter the length or width of your carpet.
2. Overlocking
Overlocking is how we expertly bind your carpet's edges, ensuring they stay neat and completely fray-free. With a large selection of yarn, we'll try our best to match the colour of your carpet unless you have a specific request. We do all our overlocking in-house, so we simply require you to bring your carpet to us (appointment required) unless pickup is arranged.
3. Your new mats or rugs or runners: ready for pickup
Your repurposed carpet is now ready for collection as custom-made mats, rugs or runners. For enhanced safety and stability, we offer an optional non-slip application, particularly recommended for mats, rugs or runners placed on smooth surfaces such as tiles or timber flooring.
